The Found Objects Project

2015

I was born in Cape Girardeau, MO and raised in Paducah, KY. Most of my childhood was spent with small objects riding around in my pockets. Whether the objects belonged to me or I had just found them, I would create stories to surround them, fabricating their histories and manifesting their significance. I thought about where they had come from, what their role was in their environment, and who had crossed their paths. I have yet to outgrow this hobby, and continue to collect small objects that pique my curiosity, often times incorporating them into my work.

The Found Objects Projects explores the formal relationships objects have with the environments they are found in and how these relationships change when the objects are taken out of, and then reintroduced to, their environments in a different context. To do this, I collected objects off the ground and photographed the places where I found them. These images were printed in black and white on matte paper. The objects were then reintroduced to their environments via placing them on the surface of the prints. The compositions were re-photographed to create the final image.
